Holy sh*t, this album is a pioneering force in which all progressive metal bands should look for the future of their genre. Guitar virtuoso Tosin Abasi has not only created one of the most (if not the most) engaging instrumental progressive metal albums of all time but also has demonstrated the now obvious, next evolutionary step for the genre. Any lists of the top 100 or whatever guitarists of all time are now obsolete without his inclusion. He is master of his craft and creates a unique sound and presence throughout his debut solo album. All guitar and bass tracks were written and recorded by Abasi (almost entirely on his 8-string, including bass parts that are played whilst the guitar track is being played, what?!!) while drums and other synthesized effects were programmed by Periphery's Misha Mansoor. Animals As Leaders is unspeakably good and any prog-metal fan should be on their knees after a single listen to tempting Time or CAFO, which, of course, stands for the Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation.
